Location: Fullerton, CA
Issues: Veterans

Today, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39), Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, and Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee hosted a Veteran's Day BBQ. Throughout the week, Rep. Cisneros joined veterans and their loved ones across California's 39th Congressional District to honor and remember the sacrifices of the men and women in our nation's military. To commemorate this special day, the Office of Rep. Cisneros also participated in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project by interviewing veterans about their service to our nation.

"I'm proud to come from a family of veterans and follow in the footsteps of my father, my uncles, and my grandfathers. My service changed my life, and provided me with opportunities I didn't know existed," said Rep. Cisneros. "We must honor and respect the sacrifices of our nation's veterans and their families. Veteran's Day is a day of remembrance, but also a day to remind us as a nation that we must uphold our promises to our veterans. I am happy to join with local leaders Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva and Supervisor Chaffee to honor our veterans in the community on this day."

"In honor of Veteran's Day, I wanted to thank all of our Veterans for the profound sacrifice they have made to defend our great country," said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Orange County). "This event is simply our way in showing our respect and gratitude for the men and women who defended our nation."

"It's a special pleasure for Fmr. Navy Lieutenant Commander Gil Cisneros to co-host this BBQ on Veteran's Day. Rep. Cisneros served honorably in the U.S. Navy for many years and has taken his special talents to serve as Congressmember of the 39th District. It's also a pleasure to co-host with Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva who has always prioritized veterans issues and has been an advocate for a Veteran's cemetery here in Orange County. Both the Congressman and the Assemblywoman have kept our veterans close to their hearts. This is a small token of appreciation to all those who served of Country," said Supervisor Doug Chaffee.

Rep. Cisneros has been an advocate and champion for veterans in Congress as a member of the House Armed Services Committee and House Veterans Affairs Committee. Earlier this year Rep. Cisnoers joined his colleagues in passing legislation to extend benefits to our Blue Water Navy veterans. He also successfully introduced legislation that has been signed into law to expand the membership of the American Legion to all honorably discharged veterans who served. Rep. Cisneros has also worked on a bipartisan basis to introduce two other pieces of veterans legislation pass the House, a bill that would ensure the transition assistance program supports our women veterans and one that ensures benefit fact sheets are available in Spanish and Tagalog.
